Update: Just an FYI

Hello Lovers!

I have news that you may find as good or bad.. Instead of bringing a new layout to this blog, I am deciding to self host using wordpress.org, so I will more than likely NOT be updating this blog anymore.   I have imported all my old posts  to a new domain name and I’ll be continually updating the new domain:

www.cleosunshine.com

I hope you all bookmark that and come visit me there.  The post are there, but I’m still working on the layout & add-ons.

Also, I’m venturing out to write for others, check out my first post @ http://www.glocallynewark.com, it’s a review of Top’s Diner.

I hope you guys continue to support my efforts!

Cat & Dog Friends! Too Ka-Ute!

I saw this and said it was too cute. It’s adorable.  I keep smiling and looking a it.  That’s all I  have to say about it!

BETJazz Show: Real Life Divas is a hit in my book!

Last night I was watching some TV pretty late, or at least late to me and I ended up on BETJ (or BET Jazz to some) and they were playing a show called Real Life Divas. I hadn’t heard of this show, but I do like their other shows, like BET Shorts and My 2 Cents so I continued watching.  RLD was featuring Naomi Campbell on this episode, and it really did tell me some things about her that I didn’t know. But the reason I write this isn’t to boast about the wonderful works of Naomi, but to talk about how I feel it is important to take back the definition of what a Diva actually is. And also to point out that BET needs more programs of this nature on their regular station and this is a problem! Many girls posing as women are misconstruing the what it means to be a “diva” even before Beyonce made it an annoying song (Sorry B, I do love you, but I hate the song).

A “diva” is NOT the female version of hustler. In fact, I went to both http://www.dictionary.com and http://www.m-w.com to find out their definition of hustler and diva, and neither made diva and hustler synonyms in their various definitions.  Then, I polled different people to find out what they feel a “Diva” is and here is what people are saying:

1. A female lead in an opera (it fits the song!)

2. Someone who is high maintenance, demanding and has high standards (in both a good and bad way).

3. Someone who is prissy, has an attitude, and is high maintenance.

4. Not sure, but its not good because I don’t like what people refer to as diva behavior.

There is resounding proof that a diva is in fact not the female version of a hustler, and I’m happy that BET Jazz has this show to show people what a real diva is (definition 2 for this case). So far they featured people like Tracey Edmonds, Fatima Robinson, Iman, Lisa Leslie, Sanaa Lathan, and Maxine Waters.  The only one whom I can say can be noted for the negative features of being a Diva is Naomi Campbell. I really like this show, and I hope it continues to a second season finding people outside of the celebrity/entertainment industry to feature.  I hope they feature some people still working their way up the “diva” ladder to continue to inspire peole and show that its not always easy.

And while I’m happy that people want to take a word with a generally negative connotation and make it positive, they also take it out of context.  You have girls calling themselves a DIVA while they sit home and receive foot stamps, what is Diva about that? Or just because a girl wears a tight slinky outfit she suddently deems herself a diva.

I also want to comment on the fact that BETJ should really be BET. They have better original programming and better taste in music.  I feel like BET is really operating under the mission statement of the original BET (like I know what that is, but based on prior BET programming like Teen Summit, etc.), and is really entertainment for black people  whereas BET now is basically trying to emulate MTV reality shows and plays horrible music like the Stanky Leg

Saber Saw Sex: When Sexual Experimentation Goes Wrong.

I don’t even know how to approach this subject with care. There is no coy introduction that can be used. So let’s just dive right into this stupidity:  Two dumb asses decided it’d be cool to mix a saber saw and a sex toy for their pleasure. I don’t know what made them think this is cool.  I support sexual experimentation, but a power tool in your nether region? These 2 geniuses decided to attach the sex toy OVER the blade. Then, I’m assuming, he went to work down there.  I’m guessing they wanted to get into a rhythm in foreplay without giving him carpal tunnel. There is no way anyone could convince me to do this and risk being scarred from sex forever!  This is an EPIC Fail.

I have a suggestion instead of this: The Sybian sex machine. This machine is a sex toy (dildo) attached to a mount that moves/vibrates. When I went to the sex expo in November they had them for sale, so they aren’t some secret sex toy. This machine is designed to assist in sexual please, unlike power tools!

For people with more money to burn (somehow I don’t think these people did) is the MonkeyRocker priced at $800. (I just searched this one on google and look how easy I found it.)

Wait, I wonder if that’s how they found this genious idea? Because out there on the internet you can see some crazy things, like urethra probing and men who like to screw rubber balls. The internets (as my grandfather calls it) is not always a safe place.  Anyway, after homegirl tore her va jay jay to a pulp (which is the only outcome) after things went awry she was flown to a Prince George’s hospital.  I’ve heard that she’s been released, but not without some serious psychological (sexual) trauma. Hope she gets better and learns her lesson.

The Dream vs. J Holiday: Which album reigns supreme?

Ok.  I really tried to like The Dream cd.  I enjoyed his first (and I would never say this to anyone) but I was waiting for his second cd.  Man, am I disappointed.  And I feel like the only one, since everyone is boasting about how great this cd is. But I’m sitting there like WHAT cd are THEY listening to? There are maybe like 1 or 2 songs I like, others I’m staring  atwith confusion.  What the hell is this Take you home to mama” crap? And Put it Down? Who says this on a song: ” If they ask you do I dance like Chris? Tell them No But as much rubbing as we do I could start a fire”  I’m sorry, what? On the track Sweat it out“he really says (multiple times) “Call Latisha your beautician” WHY IS THAT A LYRIC! I’m extremely disappointed in this effort from him.  But everyone else loves it, and his songs are great for when your in the club dancing. And we all know that to op the billboards these days the music doesn’t have to be good.  Has anyone heard of the Stanky Leg (EXACTLY!) I also don’t feel his voice is that good, it’s decent at best.  But the same can be said about R. Kelly, whose influence is very apparent on the cd.  When R. Kelly did the duet Same Girl with Usher, Usher was singing him under the table.  But R. Kelly is a great song writer (who should be writing from jail as he is a pedophile).

Also released on 3.10.2009 was J Holiday’s second cd, Round 2.  Now, I kept I was going to give his first cd a listen, because I heard boy really  has pipes on him. But he kinda just slipped through the cracks and I never got around to it.  Lately I’d been hearing some interviews he did on the local radio stations, and he sounded like a real cool dude, so I said I’d really give Round 2 a listen.   And I did. And I love it.  I have already allotted time tomorrow to listen to the first effort because I feel like I’ve been missing out. On this cd he even has a socially conscious song, Homeless.  How many singers out there are still doing socially aware songs? Holiday’s lead single is It’s Yours, which is a good solid song.  However other songs I like here are Forever ain’t enough, Run into my arms, Lights go Out, and I don’t even mind the Rick Ross feature (the only on the album) on the song Wrong Lover. Oh, and the boy really does have some pipes on him. (Did anyone else wonder if that’s Brugal Dominican Rum surrounding J on his album cover? That’s some strong stuff!)

I think it all boils down to the passion for the music. When listening to The Dream’s cd, I didn’t feel anything.  Well, lets not say anything, I felt his sense of following a formula and desire to be on top of the billboard charts.  While listening to J Holiday, I knew he really is in this for the music. And for me, that is central as I believe that music is life.  J Holiday’s cd is music for life and The Dream is the “Radio Killa” or the “R&B Gorilla” or “The American Dream” depending on which song it is.  His conceit is annoying and such a turn off.  Great songwriter, for others.  For himself, he needs more work, more editing and other input. So that’s my verdict.  If your in the record store, or browsing your iTunes support J Holiday’s effort before The Dreams.*

Check out Vibe Revolutions for their review of both CDs

*I felt really mean saying that, but hey, I like what I like right?

Oprah Speaks out to the Rihanna’s of the world

Oprah. The Big O. She’s a role model to many and an inspiration to others. Oprah has so much media power that its unbelievable, but does she always use it the way she should? I have not commented, nor will I now, on the Rihanna & Chris Brown situation. But Oprah has decided to speak out for Rihanna & will dedicate a show this week to domestic violence. This is the same Oprah who had R.Kelly at the Chicago premier of The Color Purple.

This is my gripe. So many radio stations, VJays, DJ’s and others are blasting Chris Brown. They are taking down his music, ripping his endorsements, and pretty much all around bashing him. There was not this kind of lashing out with R. Kelly from the media. And in my opinion (which for some may not be anything) what Kelly did was so much worse than Chris Brown. I mean, he was caught on tape, with an underage girl, pissing on her. It then came out that he paid money to a witness, but yet the community still embraces him. After R. Kelly’s accusations he was nominated for a damn NAACP Image Award!

I don’t watch Oprah for the most part because her I’m not her shows target demographic, but I do know she isn’t kind to the “urban” hip-hop male. And its such a shame, because there are some good dudes out there, and hip hop culture is now POP culture. What message are you sending to young teenagers if you make it seem OK to frolic with rapists? Should you speak out against Domestic Violence? YES. Should you also speak out against pedophilia, HELL YES. Almost everything out there in the news regarding Chris Brown & Rihanna is speculation and her side. He has not spoken up, and even if he does it won’t change public opinion because whenever a man hits a woman he’s automatically a deviant. Should it change things, possibly. But Oprah, as a journalist and media maven, should have waited for ALL the facts before addressing Rihanna and “all the Rihannas of the world.” Chris Brown is in court less than a month after the incident, but Kelly’s trial was ongoing since 2002???? I can’t be the only person out there who sees this as a problem. I just don’t believe it

How to deal with an overly eager man.

So I don’t normally do relationship blogs, but I feel the need to talk about something.  I guess because I’m experiencing it in my life a little, and this is what this blog is for.  So today we are going to talk about a guy type, Mr. Too Much Too Soon or Mr. Eager, but really there are many names for this type of guy.  This type of guy is really annoying when you don’t share the same times of feelings that he’s feeling, which is usually how all problems arise.  But back to topic.

Mr. Eager Beaver, this is the guy whom you just met. You have spoke maybe 2 times and hung out together once. You are thinking to yourself  “Well OK, he’s cool. We are getting to know each other.” But after these few interactions all he can talk about his how much he likes you and wants to make you  his girl. For me, this is slightly creepy because I usually feel that we don’t know each other that well.  And it’s a huge turn off.  I’m very guarded and I have to feel you out, I have yet to meet someone and feel this instant kismet.  Secondly, I feel that things like this don’t have to be said.  If you met me, and you really like the conversation and the vibe that is being given then you make it so we spend more time together. Then it would naturally progress to being a whirlwind romance.  But by you constantly talking about it, I’m weirded out.  The worse (and this happened) a guy who is like yeah my family will love you.  WTF!

Can anyone remember the scene in Waiting to Exhale where Robin (Lela Rochon) was arguing with Troy (Mykelti Williamson) from the balcony.  And she asks what have I done in 3 weeks to warrant me meeting your mama? That’s how I feel.  Now for some, this whirlwind romance can be a wonderful thing.  And it has led to many wonderful romances, but there has to be a degree of mutual chemistry.  Because just like with anything else, its only annoying if YOUR not interested.

So how do you deal with Mr. Eager Beaver? Normaly, I’d just put him on ignore and wait until he got the point. But I’ve come to realize that doesn’t always work.  And its better to be mature and up front about it.  I recommend sitting down and clarifying the standing of the “relationship.” Making sure you both are on the same page. And outlining any things that need to be said to make it so that you stay on the same page.  For instance, if he feels that you calling him 2x a week means you want something more.  YOu need to be able to say OK, I understand that and make an effort not to call him more than 2x a week unless you want to give off that vibe.  Do whatever you need to do, even if it means cutting off what could be a seemingly nice guy, because most of the time they don’t get it. And then you have a potential problem on your hands.

On the flip side, you have girls that enjoy this kind of attention.  So let these guys go back out there and find them. Know what you want and how to avoid settling. This is something that I’m still working on.  Always respect your own standards. Don’t sacrifice them for some attention.

FOUND: Amber Rose’s HOT shoes!!

OMG, I love WK! She found the shoes that I mentioned a few days ago.

The are Bottega Veneta Tea Storm Cuir and they cost a whooping $950!!! I love these shoes! They have a  4.5 inch heel (and we know I have a 4 inches or better rule) and a .6 inch platform.  Can I get a  napkin to wipe the drool?

Now, being that they cost well over a months rent, can someone point me in the direction of a Steve Madden/Jessica Simpson/somebody knock off??

Eat Shit: Literally!

Imagine if you went to your friends house, or a dates house, for dinner and they took you into a bleach cleaned bathroom and served you dinner on a porcelain toilet.  How would you feel? Kinda grossed out right? Apparently some Chinese people don’t feel the same way because there is a popular restaurant, Modern Toilet, making waves in China.  Here is where  you can go to enjoy dinner on a “stylish acrylic toilet” and drink out of a urinal (don’t deny it, you know you always wanted to do that!).  Menu delicacies include: diarrhea with dried droppings, bloody poop, and green dysentery-and these are just deserts!

I’m sorry, but there is no way you are going to get me in a restaurant that does this.  Not only do you want me to eat out of a toilet, you want to serve me shit themed names.  No matter how you slice and dice, shit is SHIT! I don’t want my food to look like shit.  Now, I know its not supposed to be about the look of food, but the flavors; but like this person said in the article, when you see curry dripping down the side of a toilet it doesn’t exactly  make you want to lick it up, does it? Apparently the Chinese can take this because they are more “nonchalant” about bodily functions. Damn that.  I’m nonchalant about it too, I know we all shit, eat, burp or whatever but I still don’t think it makes for great conversation or artwork over dinner.  There are just some things  you don’t do with food, like breast milk in ice cream.  I mean what’s next? Menstruation Macaroni?

Modern toilet was opened in 2004 by Wang Zi-wei in China.  He has 7 of these train wrecks in Taiwan, one in HOng Kong, and opens in Shenzhen China this week.  He plans to expand this to other areas in China. Please, keep that shit (pun intended) over there.  THis is the ideal restaurant for workers to pull  gross “guess the secret sauce” pranks…  SMDH!!

Thanks WK for this!!

Hot Shoes! Where can they be found?

For a moment, let’s ignore this hideous outfit that looks like it came from Baby Gap and admire the wonderfulness of these shoes.  I need more information on them, more precisely where can I find them and how many rent payments will they set me back.  Or hell, even if someone knows of a cheaper version, they are MINE! They will be so hot on my Caribbean vacation in May.  They are freaking HAUTE!!! I love the details on the heel, I have a pair of brown suede summer shoes that have a heel like that, and I love that little hidden detail with the gold stitched in there. But these, the leather and the straps are making my  heart melt.  Info please!

For those who don’t know who this is, this is Amber Rose-supposedly Kanye’s new chick.  Now this kind of makes sense on her fashion choices, because Kanye is highly into being different, which is admirable, but there is a fine line between different & stylish and this here. This here is just wrong.  It’s too much: the scarf, the elastic waist shorts, the mini tee… Maybe the mini tee with some form fitting pants would have worked for me. Or the shorts with a shirt that covered her belly. I guess for me, there is just too much skin! There have been all sorts of internet rumors about her: she’s a dyke, a stripper, and who knows what else.  I don’t care.  But every time someone says the rumor I think of the lyrics to Stronger:

“Heard they’d do anything for a Klondike
Well I’d do anything for a blonde dyke
And she’ll do anything for the limelight
And we’ll do anything when the times right.  “

Well if any of the rumors are true… here you have it!  LOL.  I don’t care. I love Kanye’s music and don’t mind his arrogance.  I mean he does his thing in music and thats what matters.  Graduation was my least favorite cd of his, but it doesn’t mean I think its a bad cd, it just wasn’t his best work.  But the latest one, 808s & Heartbreak. Well, that goes hard in my Ipod.  Love it! He’s some real stuff despite the autotone, which I hate.  You can’t deny the power behind the lyrics….

Here’s Stronger, just because I like it and I referenced it!
